IN CAMERA
The urban landscapes depicted in these large-scale photographs are partially obstructed by foreground objects. These surfaces act like veils that drape, separate, distort, and conceal in a manner that both perplexes and seduces. The surfaces, however, are never completely opaque or impenetrable. We are invited to peak into and look beyond the holes, gaps, tears, and openings in the foreground in order to view fragments of urban landscapes. The images are meant to stimulate us to question notions of familiarity and evoke the contingent character ever so present, as we attempt to perceive our surroundings.
The large scale of the prints allows the images to project their idiosyncrasies in greater detail and also enhances the physicality of the objects in them, heightening their significance. As a result, the formal quality of the picture frame is also enhanced, and its abstractness reinforced.
